Transforming Cancer Care with Robotic Precision
21 Aug 2024

Gleneagles HealthCity Chennai recently celebrated a significant milestone in clinical excellence, completing over 100 robotic-assisted cancer surgeries within a year.

At a media event in July, the hospital showcased its advanced da Vinci Xi System, which is transforming cancer treatment. A standout moment was India’s first robotic cytoreductive surgery with heated intraperitoneal chemotherapy, performed on an 82-year-old woman with stage 3 ovarian cancer.

“The da Vinci Xi System has allowed us to perform over 100 complex robotic cancer surgeries with unmatched precision, enhancing patient outcomes,” said Prof Dr S Rajasundaram, Director of Gleneagles Cancer Institute. "This minimally invasive approach, with 3D vision and magnification, accelerates recovery, reduces blood loss, and mininises complication risks.”

Anurag Yadav, CEO of Gleneagles Healthcare India, emphasised, “This milestone shows our commitment to advancing medical technology and delivering superior clinical care.”

Looking ahead, Dr Nageswar Rao, CEO of Gleneagles HealthCity Chennai highlighted the future of robotic-assisted surgeries: “As more robotic programs are implemented, costs will decrease, making these surgeries more accessible. With 5G and AI advancements, surgeons will soon be able to operate remotely across vast distances.”
