IHH Healthcare Donates RM1.0 Million to Support Malaysia’s Flood Relief Efforts
23 Dec 2024

In response to the devastating floods across Malaysia, IHH Healthcare has pledged RM1.0 million to aid relief efforts led by the Malaysian Red Crescent Society (MRCS) and MERCY Malaysia. These contributions will provide vital support, including emergency meals, medical aid, hygiene kits, and psychosocial assistance for flood victims.

Dr Prem Kumar Nair, Group Chief Executive Officer of IHH Healthcare, emphasised the organisation’s commitment to helping communities in crisis:

“Our hearts go out to all victims of the floods in Malaysia. With many thousands displaced from the widespread destruction and many struggling to recover from the aftermath, there remains strong need for large-scale, continuing humanitarian aid.

We are therefore partnering with the Malaysian Red Crescent Society and MERCY Malaysia to support their critical work on the ground. As a healthcare provider that is deeply connected to Malaysia, we are also ready to extend further support and medical assistance for those impacted.”

The RM500,000 allocated to MRCS will bolster their emergency fund, enabling them to provide essential services such as meals, medical aid, hygiene kits, and psychosocial support. Similarly, the RM500,000 for MERCY Malaysia will support mobile clinics delivering healthcare to flood-hit rural areas, with a focus on vulnerable groups.

On the ground, IHH Healthcare Malaysia hospitals have been actively contributing to relief efforts:

  • Pantai Hospital Ipoh, in collaboration with the City Council, donated essential items such as mattresses and gas stoves to flood victims in Fairpark and Bercham Ipoh.
  • Pantai Hospital Sungai Petani provided a rescue boat to Bomba Sukarelawan Sungai Petani, aiding missions in Jitra and Kelantan, and distributed food and supplies to stranded victims.
  • Both Pantai Hospital Sungai Petani and Pantai Hospital Laguna Merbok have organised donation drives to further assist affected communities.

Jean-François Naa, Chief Executive Officer of IHH Healthcare Malaysia, reinforced the company’s dedication to the community:

“In these challenging times, IHH Healthcare Malaysia remains steadfast in our commitment to the community, standing as a trusted healthcare partner. Beyond providing quality care, we are extending our reach by partnering with established humanitarian organisations engaged in flood relief efforts. Together, we aim to provide comfort, reassurance and hope to Malaysians as we face these difficulties side by side.”

IHH Healthcare remains prepared to offer additional support as the situation evolves, reaffirming its mission to Care. For Good.
